A traffic accident involving a big rig caused a fire on Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore, Ca. It is unclear to officials whether or not the big rig was struck by a vehicle that did not remain at the scene of accident, but after being forced into the median of the highway the big rig caught fire. The authorities were immediately called to the scene. The flames that were started in the big rig quickly spread to the gras in the median that the truck was turned over in. This caused the flames to spread even further. Medical officials, fire fighters, and police officers were all present at the scene trying the save the life of the driver of the big rig and attempting to put out the fire that was rapidly spreading throughout the dry grass of the highway barrier. The authorities eventually reduced the trapped driver of the big rig and were able to put out the fire on the truck and the median without experiencing a vehicle explosion. The driver of the big rig is reportedly in stable condition, but suffered significant damage to his body from 2nd degree burns and wounds that were the result of the collision. No other individuals were harmed in accident, but the highway was closed for a time due to the nature of the incident.
