A serious vehicle accident caused major traffic problems in Walnut Creek, California when a motorcycle rider was thrown from the norhbound side of highweay 680 into the path of incoming traffic in the southbound lanes. California Highway Patrol officers stated the accident took place around 12.41 pm close to the off ramp of I-680 leading traffic from Walnut Creek’s North Main Street.

The incident resulted in the closure of both sides of the highway for close to three hours before the injured had been removed from the scene and damaged vehicles moved to allow the movement of traffic to restart. By 1.30 pm the same day the Highway Patrol spokesperson stated the accident was now being treated as involving a fatality, but the details of the wreck had yet to be released in full.

Initial reports stated the motorcycle collided with another vehicle, which resulted in the rider being thrown into oncoming traffic; the driver of a vehicle was cut free and joined the motorcycle rider at John Muir Medical Center, but was not part of the initial wreck. The Costa County coroner was contacted at 1.46 pm to investigate the fatality, but further details have yet to be released to the public.
