A construction worker fell to his death from the 53rd floor of the Wilshire Grand Tower, under construction, in the 600 block of S. Figueroa Street of Los Angeles. The incident occurred shortly after noon on Thursday
The construction worker, believed to be an electrician, landed on the rear of a passing automobile. Responding Los Angeles paramedics pronounced the electrician dead. Paramedics transported the female driver of the automobile, to a nearby hospital. Sustaining no injuries from the electrician’s fall, the hospital later released her.
Many passersby saw the accident, and expressed grief, and sadness, as eyewitness Bob Moran remarked, “I’m still like struggling to comprehend what I’ve seen. I mean I understand it logically, but I’m still trying to process all of the emotions.” He stated he saw something falling that was bright and orange, and waving, but didn’t realize what it was until it hit the ground.
City, county, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials converged on the accident site to begin their investigations. Officials interviewed witnesses on the 53rd floor of the building, confirming all workers complied with wearing safety harnesses, and perimeter fencing installed. The building, when completed, will be the tallest building in California, and west of the Mississippi River.
