LOS ANGELES – Three people are dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near downtown Los Angeles according to local authorities.

At approximately midnight on February 27, 2016 a big rig overturned as a result of two additional vehicles that were allegedly racing, according to witnesses. The accident ultimately involved eight vehicles on the section of I-5 East of Washington Boulevard.

One of the street racers braked, losing control and hitting an 18 wheel UPS truck, causing the truck to go through the median divider. The truck hit a Nissan Sentra traveling the opposite direction and ultimately landing on a Ford Explorer resulting in flames.

Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the scene. It required over an hour to put out the flames from the truck. The driver of the truck as well as two occupants of the Nissan Sentra were killed as a result of the accident. Injuries were sustained by two additional passengers from the Sentra and two passengers from different vehicles involved.

Dealio Lockhart, age 35 was arrested for suspicion of street racing and may be charged with felony charges of vehicular manslaughter. There is no suspicion of the use of alcohol or illegal drugs. The driver of the Dodge Charger is still being sought by authorities.
