A construction worker was killed at construction site in West Hollywood on Tuesday afternoon after an accident involving a crane, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said that the incident, in which the worker was crushed to death, occurred at the intersection of Sunset and La Cienega boulevards and was reported just after 4 p.m.
Lt. Vance Duffy of the County Sheriff’s Department described the event as an “industrial accident.” According to Duffy, after being crushed between the crane and possible a trailer, the victim was transported to a hospital and summarily pronounced dead.
An investigation by the Division of Occupational Safety and Health has been initiated and its officials have responded to the scene.
Due to construction activities at the location, La Cienega Boulevard had been closed, according to the Sheriff’s Department. As the Cal/OSHA investigation continues, the street remained closed Tuesday night with no clear timetable for when it will be reopened.
