On Saturday afternoon, five people were killed in a crash on a two-way traffic lane highway in Northern California near Rio Vista, about 5:30 p.m. according to Highway Patrol Officer Michael Bradley. The victims included Adelaynna G. Ortiz who is three years; Annalicia Mona Montoya, 21; Aaliyah Buenrostro, 17 of Modesto. They were declared dead at the scene from traveling in a Honda Civic going west on State Route 12 close to Rio Vista, California. An unnamed toddler was escorted to the hospital, only to die moments later.

Witnesses disclosed that the Honda Civic was advancing quickly on the 55-mph highway, attempting to pass other vehicles on the two-way road. The Civic maneuvered in front of the car in front of it in the eastbound lane. The Honda then sped into the opposite lane again and had no room to move ahead. The driver lost command of the car as it steered back onto the eastbound lane, overdoing its attempt. The car swung and revolved left onto the westbound side, where the Chevy Silverado hit it on the passenger side causing all five deaths.

In the Silverado, four people had only slight injuries. As of yet, names have not been released.
