On May 7, a 17-year-old boy was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and smashed into a tree in San Mateo County near La Honda. The accident occurred shortly before noon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the teen, a Saratoga resident, was driving his 2015 Audi four-door sedan southbound on Highway 35 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car on wet pavement just north of the Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. The car veered from the road, crashed into a tree and rolled onto its roof.
When rescue workers arrived on the scene, they found the victim trapped in the car. Cal Fire crews extricated him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the San Mateo County coroner.
CHP officials said that the victim did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. Highway 35 was shut down in both directions for approximately four hours as emergency crews investigated and cleared the scene.
