A man from San Jose was pronounced dead on site, after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in Watsonville. The victim of the crash has been identified by authorities as a thirty year old man named Josue Cuello. Police say Cuello was flagged down by an officer on patrol on Highway 1, but he refused to pull over. A chase ensued and ended in Watsonville when the motorcycle driver skipped past a red light and collided with a GMC van that was turning left onto Loma Prieta Avenue in Watsonville.

Further investigation into the incident revealed that the 2007 Suzuki motorcycle that Josue Cuello was driving had been stolen from its owner in Sunnyvale. It seems that the motorcycle thief went on a joyride, and decided to flee patrolmen on Highway 1 after he was flagged down for a stop. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash and his passengers were not injured.

Witnesses from the scene described that after running through a red light and crashing head on onto the turning GMC van, the motorcycle thief was hurled into the air and landed with heavy impact on the side of the road. The force of the collision authorities conclude must have immediately killed him. Drugs or alcohol were ruled out as a cause for the accident, rather police evasion was the cause.
