Newman, CA: Jose Luis-Garcia Zambrando Killed in I-5 Wrong-Way Crash
Newman, California (February 28, 2017) – A 36-year-old driver died Friday evening in an a wrong-way traffic collision in Newman.
The police identified the victim as Jose Luis-Garcia Zambrando, 36, of Los Banos.
A motorist spotted Zambrando driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 Freeway at about 6:30 p.m., just west of Newman.
The driver identified as 47-year-old Jorge Mendoza moved into the left lane to avoid a collision, but Zambrando moved into the same lane too and the two vehicles collided head-on.
Zambrando was declared dead at the scene while Mendoza sustained minor injuries.
The incident remained under investigation.
