Jurupu Valley, CA – Police are investigating the Saturday morning death of a construction worker who was hit by a DUI suspect.
The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. near 68th Street and Wineville Avenue.
The construction worker was placing orange cones near he construction truck when a speeding black truck hit him.
The truck flipped over and landed on its side.
The construction worker was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been revealed.
He was setting up to work on a telegram pole near the construction site when he was struck, according to authorities.
Neither the driver of the truck or his passenger were hurt. Officers on the scene said they could smell alcohol on the driver.
“The driver was obviously impaired and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI,” said a Riverside Sheriff’s Department spokesperson.
The driver will likely face DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
The incident is still under investigation.
