The eastbound lanes on Interstate-80 closed due to an 18-wheeler crash near Kingvale west of Donner Lake Road, reported the California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses saw one of the big rigs in flames on the Interstate due to the vehicle crash.

The 18-wheeler accident occurred on a stretch of Interstate-80 close to Donner Lake Road headed westbound, according to an official with the California Highway Patrol. The officials also mentioned that five other big rigs are possibly involved in the Interstate collision.

The California Highway Patrol recommended drivers ion the area to divert to Old State Route 40 to allow enough time for crews and detectives to investigate the accident.

Investigators are trying to rule out alcohol, drugs and speed as contributing factors to the Interstate collision. Sources said the stretch of highway was possibly slippery.

The Highway Patrol have no estimated time frame for when the stretch of Interstate-80 will reopen to traffic.

Also, officials from the California Highway Patrol have not released whether people sustained injuries due to the Interstate crash.
