Rider, 28, Dies in U.S. Highway 101 Crash in Mountain View

Mountain View, California (December 29, 2016) – A motorcyclist was killed after his motorcycle collided another vehicle Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 101 in Mountain View.

The victim, identified only as 28-year-old Campbell man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a CHP report, the accident took place at about 4:00 p.m., just north of Rengstorff Avenue on-ramp.

As per the report, the victim was riding a sportbike and was weaving through slowing traffic when he collided with a silver Volkswagen.

The impact of the crash threw the rider from his bike and was possible struck by a truck. Reportedly, the driver of the truck slowed down after seeing the motorcyclist but did not stop.

The Volkswagen driver remained at the scene as was cooperative with the police.

The authorities shut down all the southbound lanes of 101 for approximately 15 minutes. The CHP issued a SigAlert for the first and the second lanes as they conducted an investigation at the scene.  At around 6:25 p.m. both lanes were reopened to traffic.

The incident remains under investigation.
