17-year-old Kyle Catlett of Smithfield, as well as 17-year-old Yolanda Jackson of Uniontown, were both pronounced dead at the scene. An unknown 16-year-old Uniontown female was a backseat passenger and was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital with unknown sustained injuries.
The police estimate the accident happened around 10:50 pm on May 4th while the fire chief estimates their rate of speed was in excess of a 100 MPH before the driver, Kyle Catlett, lost control of the vehicle on Route 119.
The State Police investigated and deciphered the speeding vehicle rounded a curve at the excessive rate of speed before veering off into the center lane, striking a grass embankment. This cause of death of both driver and front seat passenger was blunt force trauma after the vehicle then overturned before striking a telephone pole, then taking to air again before finally crashing into a stone wall.
According to all agencies involved in the investigation, the one vehicle fatal accident was caused by the rate of speed. Police, fire, and State Police advise that all three teenagers were wearing their seatbelts.
