Walnut Creek, CA – Emergency crews were dispatched to a motorcycle crash on Interstate 680 in Walnut Creek near the Main Exit Off Ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision in the northbound lane caused the motorcyclist to be ejected into the southbound lane.
Medical personnel rendered aid to the victim. He was then transported to John Muir Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, according to Fire Inspector Steve Aubert.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. CHP officials have no information on the identity of the victim.
Witnesses at the scene reported that a driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. The vehicle was not involved in the initial collision but crashed when swerving to avoid the motorcycle.
The driver was transported to John Muir Hospital with minor injuries and is expected to recover.
The accident blocked both the northbound and southbound lanes for two hours. No other details about the accident has been released.
CHP issued an alert informing motors of the accident.
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
