A motorcyclist was killed in the town of Sutton, California, after colliding with a vehicle.

Authorities say that a woman was backing her pickup truck containing a horse trailer into her driveway when the accident occurred. The woman had put out warning flares to warn motorists of the obstruction, but the victim was traveling at a high rate of speed and collided with the truck around dusk.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. The woman driving the pickup truck was uninjured.

Accident investigators noted that there was at least 75 feet worth of skid from the motorcycle, suggesting that the rider had noticed the trailer but was traveling too quickly to stop in time. The accident occurred in the 8500 block of Sutton, a rural area where farming and livestock are commonplace. Police had not released the names of either person involved in the crash and also told reporters that it was too soon to know if drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal crash. Toxicology results should become available in the coming days.
