A South Gate man was run over by a bulldozer and killed while working at a new home construction site in Arcadia. The accident happened about 11:20 a.m. along Monte Verde Drive near Monte Vista Road. Coroner’s officials have identified 61-year-old Sirpriano Dorame-Martinez as the worker killed in the industrial accident.

Lt. Vaughn Whalen of the Arcadia Police Department released a written statement saying the victim and a co-worker at Camerena Land Clearing had been leveling a lot for construction of a new home. “One of the workers was operating a large bulldozer,” Whalen reported. “In the process of flattening the lot, the operator drove over (Dorame-Martinez).”

The victim was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. LA County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Department Assistant Chief of Operations Ed Winter said an autopsy revealed that the victim had died from “multiple traumatic injuries.” Winter said Dorame-Martinez’s death has been ruled accidental.

The California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Occupational Safety and Health is working with Arcadia police in investigating the fatality. Agency spokesperson Julia Bernstein said the OSHA investigation could take as long as six months to complete.
