Police say that two street racers are responsible for a multivehicle crash that occurred early on a Saturday morning on the Commerce 5 Freeway. Two drivers were speeding in the southbound lanes when one of the drivers lost control and veered into a UPS semi-truck.
The UPS truck was not prepared for the impact and slammed into the divider of the highway before flipping over into the northbound lanes. It landed on one other vehicle and hit several more ending in an explosion that killed three and injured four more.
Dealio Lockhart from Whittier was arrested at the scene for his role in the wrongful death of the three accident victims and will be arraigned on vehicular manslaughter charges. According to Alex Rubio, a CHP Officer, Lockhart has already admitted that he was racing in his Dodge Challenger at the time of the crash. He lost control of his car while trying to pass a slower vehicle upon slamming his brakes.
The result was he hit the UPS truck which tore off the top of a gray Nissan as it flew over it and landed on a Ford Explorer. Two women in the Nissan and the UPS driver were pronounced dead on the scene.
