The highway between Moss Landing and Castroville in California was closed for close to three hours following a fatal accident that occurred on 22nd march 2016 at around 12.30pm. The accident left one person dead and seven others injured while also causing a traffic nightmare for other road users. The head on crash involved a silver Mazda which was hit by a black SUV Lexus. The driver of the Mazda identified by California Highway Patrol Officers as a 24 year old prunedale died on the spot.
The other driver of the SUV was identified as a Hernandez who is a student at University of California. It is believed that Sarah Cameroon a 19 year old who was among the occupants of the SUV tried to hide marijuana and ecstasy in her purse in a nearby farm after the crash but was noticed by people who witnessed the crash.
The driver of the SUV states that she was rolling her window to throw a cigarette out when she accidentally rammed into an oncoming traffic. Upon further interrogation by the police she admitted that she was speeding.
The California Highway Patrol officers say that they suspect that the female driver who caused the accident was under the influence of marijuana because upon interrogation all the other six occupants admitted having been using marijuana.
