Lake Forest, CA – A woman died early Thursday morning after the car she was a passenger in crashed into a tree. The driver is suspected of driving under the influence.
The 1964 Dodge Dart was traveling in the eastbound lane at a high rate of speed when it veered off the road and crashed into the tree near Overlake.
When Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy’s arrived, they found both passengers trapped inside the vehicle. The jaws of life had to be used to free both passengers.
Both parties were unresponsive. The unidentified driver suffered from head injuries and was transported to Mission Hospital.
The woman, who was later identified as 26-year-old Jessica Luhan was also taken to Mission Hospital and later died of her injuries.
A spokesperson with the Anaheim Police Department said the driver will likely be charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter. The driver has a previous DUI conviction.
The driver was in surgery Thursday morning for unspecified internal injuries but is expected to recover.
The accident is still under investigation.
