A motorcyclist was killed on the evening of Friday February 12th when his motorcycle hit and rear-ended a vehicle on Highway 50 in Sacramento, California. The accident occurred on the connector from westbound Highway 50 to northbound Capital City Freeway.

The crash occurred about 4:50 p.m. according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Michael Bradley. Two motorcyclists were racing along Hwy. 50 when one of the cyclists crashed into the back of a Kia Rio around 5:10 p.m. just east of 26th Street. The two motorcycles were reported traveling at high speed, weaving in and out of traffic.

The motorcyclist died at the scene from injuries suffered in the crash. The occupants of the Kia were not injured, according to the spokesperson. Crews were able to clear the scene by 6:30 p.m., however there was still heavy residual back up on the northbound 51 transition lane. According to Google Maps, traffic was backed up for several miles up to the Rosemont area.

The Highway 50-Capital City Freeway connector was closed into the early evening for the crash investigation.
