Ozona, TX:  4 Killed, One Injured in Tragic Crash on Interstate 10 Freeway

Ozona, Texas (April 10, 2017) – Four people were killed and one other person was injured after three vehicles were involved in a crash near Ozona early Saturday morning, according to a report.

The accident took place at about 4:50 a.m. on I-10 about 11 miles west of Ozona.

According to the report, Jessica Renee Marciano, 32, of Torrington, Connecticut, was driving a 2005 Ford Ranger eastbound on Interstate 10 when she fell asleep. The car went off the roadway into the center median where it overturned and came to rest, partially blocking the eastbound inside lane. Marciano managed to free herself with help and was sitting on top of her vehicle.

A 2018 Kenworth truck tractor, driven by a 47-year-old Minnesota resident Carl Todd Saari, towing a 2001 Raven trailer, was eastbound on I-10 approaching the stalled pickup in the outside lane.

Reportedly, Saari could only see a witness vehicle stopped on the improved shoulder but did not see the pickup on the roadway. Saari moved the truck to the inside lane and struck the stalled vehicle, killing Marciano.

The truck tractor then went through the center median after suffering complete steering loss and went into the westbound lanes. There, it struck a westbound 2014 Volkswagen passenger car, driven by 54-year-old Izaguirre Garzal Isael of Cuidad Victoria, Mexico. Isael and two passengers who were in the Volkswagen were killed. The passengers were identified as Maria Guadalupe Lopez De Izaguirre, 50, of Cuidad Victoria, Mexico and Nora Castillo, 42, of Denver City.

All four victims were declared dead at the scene by Justice of Peace Kerbow.

Saari was taken to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo with incapacitating injuries.

The incident remained under investigation.
