PALERMO, Calif. – One person was killed in a fiery crash when a car and 18-wheeler collided south of Oroville near Highway 70 Monday in the morning.

The fatal collision between a big rig and car occurred about 10:13 a.m. close to Little Ranch Road off Highway 70.

The California Highway Patrol diverted traffic headed north at Stimpson Road while the traffic driving southbound was diverted at Palermo Road.

The highway patrol estimated the stretch of Highway 70 would close for roughly an hour.

The driver of Chevrolet Cobalt sped pass numerous vehicles in the shoulder. The driver drove in the shoulder area reaching excess speeds of 55 mph.

When the driver attempted to drive his car back on the roadway, he lost control of his vehicle.
The Chevrolet flew in the path of an 18-wheeler driving northbound on the highway, said Sanders.

Authorities pronounced the male drive of the Chevrolet dead on the accident scene.

There is no additional information about the deadly fiery crash on highway, report the California Highway Patrol.
