Vernon, CA – The Los Angeles County Coroner has released the name of the man killed in an 18-wheeler hit and run.

The 28-year-old passenger was identified as Armando Murillo, of Pacoima. Murillo died Saturday morning when an 18-wheeler slammed into the back of the pick up truck. He and the driver were pinned inside. The impact caused the pickup to be pinned beneath the 18-wheeler.

Murillo was confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver is expected to survive his injuries.

At around 3:00 a.m. law enforcement responded to a vehicle crash call near 37th and Santa Fe Avenue.

Authorities said the 18-wheeler driver was involved in another minor crash near Soto St. before running a red light and colliding with the pick up.

The 18-wheeler dragged the truck several yards before coming to a stop. The driver jumped from the cab, unhooked the trailer and fled the scene.

Gulliermo Ortiz Jr. is a person of interest in the crash, according to authorities. Anyone who has information on his whereabouts are asked to contact the Vernon Police Department.
