An LA County judge lost his life in a pedestrian accident in West LA. The February 15, 2015, accident took place just after 6:00 in the evening as Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Daniel Brenner was crossing the street after work.

Judge Brenner, age 64, was crossing Beverwill Drive headed westbound when he was struck by a car headed northbound on Pico Boulevard. Brenner was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The fatal accident took place not far from his Beverly Hills home.

The car involved was listed as a 2015 Honda Civic that was driven by a 38-year-old man who lives in Calabasas. The driver remained at the scene to cooperate with police and he was not charged in the incident. Police reported that Brenner had not been crossing in a crosswalk.

Judge Brenner assumed the bench in 2012 after a respected legal career. He was recognized as an expert in communications law, having served as Senior Legal Advisor to the chair of the Federal Communications Commission. Brenner had also been a partner in the firm of Hogan Lovells LLP and more recently taught at USC’s Gould School of Law. Colleagues remembered him fondly for his use of humor on the bench and in the classroom.
