A construction site worker was on Tuesday afternoon crashed to death in a bizarre accident involving a crane and a trailer near the Sunset strip in West Hollywood, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The incident, which was described as an industrial accident by Lt. Vance Duffy of the Los Angeles sheriff’s department, was reported shortly after 4 p.m. near Sunset and La Cienega boulevards intersection. The worker was working in the 1200 block of La Cienega Boulevard and was under the employment of one of Southern California Edison’s contractors as confirmed by Caroline Aoyagi-Stom, spokeswoman for the company. He sustained fatal injuries when he was crushed between the crane and the trailer and was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity was withheld pending notification of his family.

The state’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health representatives responded to the incident and were at the site conducting investigations into the accident. The Sunset Strip, near the scene of the accident, has experienced an increase in construction and redevelopment in the recent years. La Cienega Boulevard which, according to the Sheriff’s department, had been closed to pave way for construction was closed on Tuesday evening to allow the Occupational Safety and Health carry out their investigations and it remained unclear whether it would be reopened.
