Modesto – A man riding a motorcycle was hit by two vehicles and killed.

Police were called to the scene of Woodland and Lone Palm at about 6:30 p.m Thursday evening. When they arrived, they found a man, identified as Joseph Young, 38, in the eastbound lane.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Chuck Leon, Young was riding his motorcycle when a Nissan truck driven by Antone Lopez, 59, drove away from a stop sign and in the path of Young’s motorcycle.

The impact caused Young and his motorcycle to be tossed into the eastbound lane where he was hit by a utility truck. The motorcycle continued to roll until it hit an embankment South of Woodland.

The reason why Lopez pulled away from the stop sign and into traffic is unclear.

Young was pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement shut down traffic for a period of time between Woodland and Graphics Drive.
