Near Rio Vista, CA – Two young children, a 17-year-old girl, and two women were killed in a horrific April 9, 2016, automobile accident near Rio Vista.

The accident occurred when the Honda Civic attempted to pass another vehicle. The Civic was traveling in the eastbound lane of State Route 12 when the drive attempted to make the pass and lost control when she attempted to return to the eastbound lane. The driver overcompensated the maneuver and lost control of the vehicle. The Civic then spun into the westbound lane where it was struck by an oncoming Chevy Silverado.

The passengers among the dead in the civic where 21-year-old Annalicia Montoya, 17-year-old Aaliyah Buenrostro, and 3-year-old Adelaynna Ortiz. The other two victims, an adult female and a small child, remained unidentified.

The passengers of the Silverado suffered mild injuries. Each of the four passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. They were treated at a nearby hospital.

It was not known if the passengers of the Civic were wearing safety belts at the time of the accident. Only one child safety seat was found in the vehicle.

It remained unclear if weather conditions played a part in the cause of the car accident, which remained under investigation.
