In the early hours of February 12, 2016 a car accident on Highway 50 in Sacramento left one passenger dead. According to reports by the California Highway Patrol, United States Marine Brett Jones, 25, died instantly when the Toyota Scion he was a riding in crashed into the back of an eighteen-wheeler.

The big rig was merging onto the highway when the Scion crossed over onto the on-ramp and slammed into the back of the rig. The Scion then strayed into the the far left lane where it collided with a Toyota Corolla. The Scion was reportedly traveling over 65 mph.

The accident closed two lanes of Westbound Highway 50 while it was being investigated and cleaned up.

The Scion’s driver, Alexandra Jiminez, 22, was arrested and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after she was released from the hospital with minor injuries.

No one else involved in the accident was injured. The accident happened around 2 a.m. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol that Jones was not likely to be wearing a seat belt.
