On April 25, a Lyft driver and his passenger were killed when the car they were riding in was struck by a stolen vehicle in Lodi. The crash happened at around 7:50 p.m., according to authorities.

Lodi police said a stolen Nissan Altima was speeding north on Pleasant Avenue when it ran a stop sign, slamming into a Nissan Sentra traveling east on Lodi Avenue. The 16-year-old driver of the Altima jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. He was apprehended by police officers in a nearby parking lot. His male passenger also ran from the scene and managed to elude authorities.

The occupants of the Sentra, a 62-year-old male Lyft driver and his 43-year-old male passenger, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Friends of the driver told local media that he had just been certified to work for Lyft.

The 16-year-old suspect has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm.

An 11-year-old witness to the crash filmed the incident with her cell phone. Police are attempting to using the footage to locate the second suspect.
