A man on a motorcycle died April 9th when he ran a red light and was struck by a truck. According to police, the accident occurred around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Morena Boulevard and Avati Drive in San Diego’s northern section. The 55-year-old motorcycle rider approached the intersection as the traffic light turned red. The driver of a 2004 Chevy truck, stopped at the 4000 block of Avati, made a left at the intersection. The motorcyclist, who was on a 2006 Harley Davidson, ran the red light and hit the rear of the turning truck. Police and EMTs were called to the scene. The Morena/Avati intersection had to be shut down in all directions for over an hour as the motorcyclist was treated for serious injuries and the accident scene was investigated. The 55-year-old motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the victim has not been released by authorities. There is no word whether drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the fatal crash.
