Pacific Coast Highway Crash Kills Diego Escamilla-Lopez, 27, of San Juan Capistrano
Dana Point, California (January 3, 2016) – A 27-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning after his vehicle crashed on a Highway in Dana Point, according to the Orange County Register.
The accident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. when Diego Escamilla-Lopez crashed his vehicle on the northbound Pacific Coast Highway near Doheny Park Plaza. Reportedly, Lopez was driving his 1995 Volvo at high speeds when the car lost control and struck a traffic pole. The impact of the crash ejected from the vehicle and was struck by another car on the highway.
The San Juan Capistrano resident was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Lopez stopped at the scene. It was determined the second driver was not driving under the influence.
The authorities shut down Pacific Coast Highway at the scene in both directions as they investigated the incident. The southbound lanes of reopened at approximately 7 a.m. while the northbound lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the police to determine the cause and whether Lopez was driving while intoxicated.
