Hardin County, TX: 2-Year-Old Girl Dies After FM 770 Three-Car Wreck
Hardin County, Texas (April 21, 2017) – A 2-year-old girl died Thursday morning following a three-vehicle crash in Harding County, according to DPS troopers.
The crash took place at about 7:30 a.m. on FM 770 near Saratoga.
According to a report by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Billy Ray Briscoe Sr., 63, of Village Mills was driving a Dodge pickup truck heading northbound on FM 770. For an unknown reason, the pickup crossed over into the southbound lanes and struck s Mitsubishi passenger vehicle driven by 24-year-old Kountze resident Cody Norman.
Reportedly, a Dodge Durango traveling behind the Dodge pickup went off the road in an attempt to avoid the crash and struck a small tree.
Norman sustained minor injuries while a 2-year-old girl riding with him suffered major injuries to her head. Both patients were taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, as per the DPS. The young girl was later transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston where she died of her injuries Thursday evening.
The toddler was only identified as Dixie.
Briscoe was also taken to Christus St. Elizabeth with minor injuries. The driver of the Durango was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation, but Troopers suspect that Briscoe may have fallen asleep while driving.
