Hudspeth County, TX: 2 Killed in West Texas El Paso ISD Charter Bus

Hudspeth County, Texas (May 2, 2017) – Two people, among them an Irvin High School track coach were killed early Sunday morning in a crash that left several other people injured in Hudspeth County, according to a report.

According to the report, the incident took place just around midnight Sunday, April 30on U.S. Highway/18o, approximately 4 miles west of Del City.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Gary Lawson, 51 of Hobbs, New Mexico, swerved into the westbound lane and collided head-on with an El Paso ISD chartered school bus.

The pickup truck burst into flames after the collision.

As per the report, the bus passengers had to be evacuated through a window.

Garyl Lawson and a passenger in the bus, identified as Arcadio Duran Jr., 48, of El Paso, were killed in the accident. Duran Jr. was a coach track coach at Irvin High school.

The bus was carrying students, trainers, and coaches from Austin, Burges,  El Pas,  Chapin, Andress, Jefferson, and Irvin.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
