Authorities are still investigating the tragic circumstances surrounding a construction worker’s 53 story fall from the Grand Wilshire Tower.

At around 12:07 p.m. firefighters responded to an emergency at the 600th block of South Figuora Street.

The victim’s body landed on the rear of a car passing on Wilshire Boulevard.

The unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident was not related to work, according to the victim’s employer, Turner Construction Company. When asked by a KTLV reporter what non-work related meant, he was told by a company spokesperson that victim was not there in a work-related capacity.

No further comment would be made pending the outcome of a formal investigation, said a company spokeswoman. “We want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family in this very difficult time.”

The female driver of the late-model Ford was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery said.

Traffic was diverted around Wilshire Boulevard for over an hour.

Representatives from Cal/OSHA arrived on the scene shortly after 1:00 p.m.

The worker, who was employed as an electrician, had only been on the job two days. An individual who wanted to remain anonymous, said that there was no reason for him to be doing work so close to the edge of the building.
